Iran Today — August 29, 2026
Iran is living through one of the most dangerous periods in its modern history.
Six months of war involving Iran, the United States and Israel have compounded decades of economic mismanagement, international isolation, sanctions and political repression. Iran’s foreign trade has fallen by approximately 35%, annual inflation reached 66% in July, and food prices were 128% higher than a year earlier.
For millions of ordinary Iranians, the crisis is now part of everyday survival. Families are cutting meat and other basic foods from their tables. Salaries can disappear within days. People who once supported themselves with professional jobs are taking additional work simply to pay for necessities. The problem is not necessarily that food has disappeared from every store—it is that basic food is becoming unaffordable for millions of people.
At the same time, repression has not stopped.
United Nations experts continue to document allegations of arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance, torture and death sentences imposed after proceedings that raise serious concerns about fair-trial guarantees. In May 2026, UN experts specifically intervened regarding prisoners facing imminent execution and raised concerns about alleged torture and arbitrary detention.
The Iranian people have repeatedly demonstrated that the actions of the Islamic Republic do not represent the will of an entire nation.
Women, students, workers, farmers, families of victims and ordinary citizens have repeatedly risked imprisonment and death demanding freedom, dignity, accountability and the right to determine their own future.
From the student uprising and the Green Movement, to Aban 2019, Flight PS752, Woman, Life, Freedom, and the protests of 2025–26, generations of Iranians have refused to remain silent.
Today they are caught between domestic repression, economic devastation and international war.
The world must distinguish between the Iranian people and those who rule them.
The Iranian people are not the Islamic Republic.
They deserve to live without fear.
They deserve food and economic security.
They deserve freedom from execution and political imprisonment.
They deserve the right to determine their own future.
IRAN’S STORY IS NOT OVER.
Keep watching Iran.
Keep their voices alive.
Stand with the Iranian people.
