Send Emails: Humanitarian Concerns Regarding Political Prisoners in Iran

March 21, 2026

Across Iran, a quiet humanitarian crisis is unfolding behind prison walls—largely unseen, but deeply urgent.

Political prisoners, many detained for their beliefs, speech, or peaceful activism, are now facing conditions that go beyond repression. Reports emerging from facilities such as Evin Prison, Fashafouyeh, and Chabahar Prison in Sistan and Baluchestan paint a disturbing picture: food supplies are running dangerously low, access to medical care is limited or nonexistent, and basic prison administration in some areas appears to have broken down. In Chabahar Prison dozens were killed after protesting the food

Urgent: Humanitarian Concerns Regarding Political Prisoners in Iran

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to urgently raise concern about the deteriorating humanitarian conditions inside Iranian prisons, particularly affecting political prisoners.

Recent reports from inside Iran indicate that conditions in several prisons, including Evin and Fashafouyeh, and Chabahar Prison in Sistan and Baluchestan have become increasingly unsafe and inhumane. There are alarming accounts of severe food shortages, lack of medical care, and abandonment of basic prison administration. Prisoners are reportedly being held in conditions that pose an immediate risk to their health and survival.

In Chabahar Prison, prisoners’ protest over several days of food deprivation was met with gunfire.
In the early hours of March 17, security forces and special units entered the prison and opened fire on protesting inmates; dozens were wounded and several were killed.
Reports indicate that prisoners had gone without food for at least four days and were demanding transfer or release due to the conditions and lack of safety.

These individuals—many detained for political or non-violent reasons—are now facing compounded hardship due to neglect and the absence of adequate oversight. Families of detainees and sources within Iran continue to express urgent concern for their safety.

I respectfully urge your organization to:

  • Investigate and publicly report on the current conditions in Iranian prisons
  • Call for immediate humanitarian access to detention facilities
  • Pressure Iranian authorities to ensure adequate food, medical care, and basic human rights protections for all prisoners
  • Advocate for transparency and accountability regarding the treatment of political detainees

Time is critical. Increased international attention and action may help prevent further deterioration and potential loss of life.

Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.

Sincerely,
