On April 26th, the House Foreign Affairs Committee (HFAC) passed the MAHSA Act (H.R.589) in their markup session! Voice of Iran applauds this new development and urges House Leadership to bring the MAHSA Act to the House floor for a vote in the coming weeks.

Although the language discussed in the markup was slightly different from the original bill, both parties agreed to continue negotiations to ensure the bill’s language meets constitutional standards.

The next step is to bring the bill to the floor for a vote by the full House of Representatives. If passed, this legislation would require the executive branch to determine sanctions against the Supreme Leader of Iran, the President of Iran, their entities and offices, and their inner as well as impose visa and property bans pursuant to section.

At a time when the Iranian people are fighting for their freedoms, it is bills like this that take real action to help them achieve democracy for Iran. Thousands of members of the Iranian American community have reached out to their representatives, and asked them to support this resolution. When we come together as a community, we can influence policy and make our voices heard.
